Thrifted This and a group of thrift-fluencers hosted a pop-up shop at the Coffee and Clothing store in Toronto. What did the day bring? Tons of second-hand clothes donated by internet fashion icons, which allowed all the participants of the event to shop their wardrobes in the hope of finding new pieces they liked.

Sarah Dunk, organizer of Thrifted This, shared her thoughts on the event.
“Thrifted This originated as an Instagram account where users could tag their thrifted items in OOTD posts. We have now hosted over 10 events, both virtual and IRL but this was our biggest one yet with over 700 attendees! [] It was so special to see all of these ideas come to life and to be able to connect so many like-minded individuals. Building communities around secondhand shopping has always been a main goal of mine and doing this while also offering the season’s latest trends and staples at low prices made it that much better!” |

When it comes to second-hand shopping, it can be complex. You don’t really know what you’re looking for, or sometimes your idea is set on an item so clearly you can’t even open your eyes to other treasures. It takes patience, but most of all it takes a lot of luck.
“Go in with an open mind but researching some style icons from the ’90s/early 2000s can never hurt! I find that my most successful thrift trips come after I binge a good season of Friends. All of the characters had their own distinct style but I feel like everyone can take something away from each of them. Since most of the vintage we are seeing currently is from the era that the show was filmed in, I find it truly helps me to discover new items that I might not have thought to look for!” Want in on a secret? These are Sarah’s go-to thrift shopping locations “As someone who drives I prefer to visit thrift stores just outside of the city in Richmond Hill, Markham and Etobicoke! There are also a variety of beautiful vintage boutiques that have opened in recent years in downtown Toronto that I tend to visit if I am looking for a more specific item such as a dress, costume or good pair of jeans. These stores are Good Habits, Shop Coat, The Wanderly and Expo Vintage Outlet.” |
