MEET OJO
OJO is not concerned with beauty or aesthetics. His work explores crude and heavy themes with a whimsy that are pure artistic expression. Mistakes aren’t mistakes, there is no set plan, exploration is the key That is the OJO way.

Art for the sake of art.
How would you describe your art? My work pops. Visually, it’s very playful and light, even though I like to explore deep or trashy themes. The pieces often end up being street art meets abstract expressionism meets outsider art (among other things lol).
Talk to us about your creative process. I like to work in a meditative state. I’m not really interested in structure, I follow my instinct. While I create, I connect with my piece and (try to) disconnect from everything else. I’m usually defining my paintings as I go and let myself be as absurd and bonkers as I want to be.
What is inspiring you right now? This might sound odd, but I’m not into anything that’s too aesthetic. I like ugly (to my taste). Different textures and landscapes that don’t really fit together do it for me. I love when a wall has faded graffiti, and a few dumpsters nearby, mixed with other colours and patterns that are incompatible.
What is bringing you joy right now? The sun.
Can you talk to us about your next project? I don’t know what my next project will be just yet, but I am interested in exploring new mediums. I’m thinking about how I can share my messages in a different way, something that’s not acrylic and the other techniques I currently work with. Stay tuned!
What are your go-to shoes? My Vans Pro Skates for skateboarding. My Blundstone boots for Montreal winters. My adidas slides for hanging out. Keep up with OJO here! |
