MEET MARC-OLIVIER LAMOTHE
Originally from Sherbrooke, Marc-Olivier Lamothe is a visual artist through and through. He sits at the intersection of graphics and the fine arts, and it was his love of both (and an infographic class) that led him to combine digital illustration and painting.

Painting joy, one mural at a time
How would you describe your art? My art is naive, quasi-abstract and playful. I think of my creative universe as a floating playground where the rules of time and gravity don’t apply.
Talk to us about your creative process. I like to straddle mediums, like digital and tangible creation. I don’t want to put limitations on what I create, so mostly it happens through spur of the moment intuition. I love exploring multidisciplinary art forms, trying out new mediums and applying the same essence of joy to all of my creations.
What is inspiring you right now? I’m most inspired by nature. I like to observe the synergy between the different natural elements like plants, trees, fauna and people I meet. My biggest inspiration booster is going on a hike in nature. |

Can you talk to us about your next project? My latest project is called “The Walls of Joy”. It’s a series of murals I created throughout Montreal, and the goal of the project is to pay tribute to the resilience and courage of Montreal citizens during the pandemic. The murals are there to brighten neighbourhoods and bring joy to an otherwise gloomy moment in time. They are a message of hope, beauty and glee.
What are your go-to shoes? Nothing beats a good pair of Vans. Make sure to follow Marc-Olivier on Instagram to keep up with his work. |
