AN ECO-CELEBRATION FOR ECO THEORY
Our community was able to come together and celebrate the release of the new, sustainably crafted footwear collection from Vans: Eco Theory. There was a lot to celebrate, as this is Vans first sustainably focused footwear collection and it was one of the first times in a long time that we were able to have an in-person soiree.

A sustainable celebration was the only appropriate way to honour the Vans Eco Theory collection.
The Event The launch party was hosted at Chivalry, a creative agency with a beautiful loft space close to the Little Burgundy head office in Montreal. Picture high ceilings and exposed brick, old wooden floors, lush green plants and fresh white walls. The perfect canvas for a cool party. Twenty people from the Little Burgundy community were invited to celebrate, and it was a joy to see new and familiar faces together for our first event in a long time. We had several incredible collaborators bring the food, drinks and good times, with an emphasis on sustainability. McAuslan, a Montreal brewery and distillery, supplied cocktails on tap, served in glasses and not plastic cups to reduce waste. Sumac, a local Middle Eastern restaurant, offered guests individually packed meals with compostable forks and boxes. While the beats were never recycled, DJ Killakenj added the celebratory ambience that the collection deserved. With incredible food and drinks, bumping tunes, and our sustainable consciences clear, a great time was had by all. |

Meet the Chivalry Team The impressive team of creatives at Chivalry was our gracious hosts for this launch party. They are also the great minds responsible for the intricate, artful Eco Theory collection video.
What is Chivalry Creative? Chivalry Creative (more commonly called Chivalry) is a creative agency. We started ten years ago as a production company doing the film fest circuits with shorts docs/films as well as producing music videos and continuously evolving into what we are today. Each of us comes in with an arsenal of experience so we acknowledge and encourage that to the fullest. That uniqueness is being true to yourself, we aim to represent brands that reflect that spirit and nature.
What is Chivalry’s creative process? After the foundation is laid with the vision and desire of the brand, we each add our shades and hues to form a unique patchwork. We then aim to use that resource and draw from that well of authenticity, to create engaging content. From the initial ideation to the final product, all under one roof. The Eco Theory project was a great fit, tip of the iceberg of what we hope to do and cultivate.
Can you talk about your latest project with Little Burgundy? For the Eco Theory project, we wanted to challenge ourselves and fully work around the eco sustainability concept. It started with a field trip as a team, gathering twigs, rocks and soil to build our set and create the tiny eco world. From these organic props down to the launch event, we drew our insporado from recycled materials and mother nature. We then integrated CGI to enhance the story of the world we wanted to paint. This project allowed us to acknowledge and appreciate the nature around us.
What are your go-to shoes? We’re from Canada, Mexico, Korea, France and the US so most of us have been skating, snowboarding, and surfing from early on. So obviously Vans has always been part of our lifestyle and culture. We all liked various Vans shoes growing up and we still wear them today. Low tops for Joe. The DP prefers Slip Ons, which make sense, he’s a fan of comfort, slip n go. Our producer wears the Sk8-Hi because he likes a good ankle support when he’s bussin his best James Brown, but the shoes are just an extension of that ethos. Trusting yourself and knowing what moves you. It’s a nice twist, which we always enjoy. We can’t thank them enough for hosting and collaborating with us on the launch of this collection.
